Bells and Smells

April 1, 2018 | (141 words)

Provided one is able to muster the necessary stamina, there is nothing like a long, thorough Holy Saturday service at an observant Catholic parish to remind one of the benefits of communal worship. For those who may be unfamiliar with this elaborate liturgy, our simple recommendation would be: don’t knock it until you’ve tried it.

And in the event one already has, may we suggest a walking back of youthful rejection so as to consider trying it once more. This time bring your now all-grown-up self to the proceedings, and make a sincere effort to take in every aspect of the ceremony unfolding before you. Admission is free. It’s come as you are. And as the saying goes, it’s never too late to get started (again).
